Synonym: Cholecalciferol, Calciol, Vitamin D3, 7-Dehydrocholesteroal activated, Activated 7-dehydrocholesterol
Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is a type of vitamin D which is made by the skin when exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D plays a significant role in calcium hemeostasis and metabolism. Cholecalciferol is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitiam D (calcifediol) which is then converted in the kidney to calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D).
